The Princeton Elks Charitable Trust
“Making a Difference In Our Community”
In 2010/11, the leadership of the Princeton Elks Lodge moved with the approval of the member-ship to establish a non-profit corporation which would be called the Princeton Elks Charitable Trust. One of the first Lodge level non-profit charitable organizations formed by the Elks in the state of New Jersey. Other Lodges such as the Somerville Elks Lodge soon followed suit working to form their own c3’s.
The purpose in forming the c3 trust corporation was to increase the opportunities of the Elks to receive tax deductible corporate donations as well as increase the ability of Princeton Lodge to apply for and receive grant funds from local corporations such as Norvo Nordisk, Johnson and Johnson, Bloomberg, 1st. Constitution Bank, Provident Bank and others in the area. Chairpersons of the four primary charitable committees within the Lodge; Special Children’s (SCC), Veterans, Scholarship and Youth Activities serve as chairpersons within the trust corporation along with other members and officers of the Lodge in order to encourage a strong relationship between the two.
Over the course of the first year or so, with very little effort, the Trust was able to bring in over $22,000 dollars which has been distributed to each of the primary committees enabling for more than $10,000 dollars in educational scholarships to be presented, nine additional camperships to Elks Camp Moore yearly, fund work performed to establish the Lodge Youth Activities Room dedicated to the memory of Michael R. Damato and funding in support of Lodge sponsored youth and scouting programs.
